"I would hope a Muslim would have as positive a response to "Reclaiming Beauty" as I did. Through intense dialogue with each other, Rosenthal and Dardess engage their reader. One is made to feel privy to a wise and rich conversation. A feast of all forms of beauty is laid before one. But the real innovation here is that the subject of Muslim-Christian relations is explored slant, that is through the arts at which both traditions excel. The authors offer the gift of their own experience and learning. I for one am grateful.

Atlanta, GA - "Reclaiming Beauty" is spectacular. To whatever page I turn, greedily and perhaps irresponsibly glomming chunks from the inspired Dardess-Rosenthal collaboration, it's all exactly the kind of thing I love. Bach, Grunewald fire hydrants, Ron Hansen, L'Engle on beauty, Platonic dialogues disguised as Abrahamic chats, aerosol calligraphy -- great stuff! Of course it rewards settling down and proceeding a step at a time (okay, walking the "shar"), but even a cursory glance makes it apparent how rampantly beauty claims "Reclaiming." This is a book for personal everyday enrichment, but also, on a larger scale, it presents a vision with power to unite hearts and minds. There's nothing else like it around, and hopefully this opens the way to a conversation that we have so far avoided to our loss.
- Christians are often obsessed with "what do you believe?" as if religion were a question of answering whether the Loch Ness Monster exists or one can believe in the free market. By approaching Christianity and Islam through the lens of beauty, George Dardess and Peggy Rosenthal not only marvelously illuminate these two world faiths, they shift the very way in which we enter religious space. The book is not only a model of inter-religious dialogue, it is also a pattern that could be used in intra-religious dialogue as Christian conservatives and liberals attack one another in print or Shia and Sunni battle one another on the streets of the middle east. A splendid read -- and totally accessible.
- Reclaiming Beauty for the Good of the World is very engaging and provides hope for the future. As a person who is very involved in interfaith work, I found the book to be an excellent resource. Thank you to the authors for much needed resource!
