• Lisa lives in New York with her husband, and her mom lives in Florida. Lisa was never very close to her mother, and the two did not get along very well in their younger years. Her mom now has Alzheimer’s and the relationship has changed. Lisa now feels understanding and love toward her ailing mom that she has never felt before. The true story has no revelations about the disease or any enlightenment for others facing the same ordeal with a loved one. It’s just one woman’s personal journal sharing her conversations and thoughts. Pictures of Lisa as a youngster with her mom are interesting additives and take up space, but have little to do with the present situation.
  
  This book was a disappointment for me. I thought it would be a narrative of a daughter as a caretaker for her Mom who had Alzheimer's; however, it was more of a diary of mostly long-distance phone conversations between the two. There were some accounts of the daughter’s visits with her mom, but Lisa is not the caretaker. Each chapter includes posts from reader’s of Lisa’s on-line blog. The husband’s comments at the beginning of the book somewhat sums up the whole narrative. As someone who went thorough the same kind of long-distance ordeal as Lisa, I feel compassion for both Lisa and her mom, but I did not find this an overly inspirational story about the disease.
• My Mom My Hero -Alzheimer's, A Mother and Daughter's Bittersweet Journey reads like a blog not the kind of blog that keeps you up until 3am in the morning with kleenex and a cold cup of coffee, but the kind you drag through dutifully because you have become committed to hearing the story to its end. The book comes complete with several comments to each "blog post" included, and while some of these comments are additionally insightful, most are nothing more than back-patting and cheers to the author.
  
  It's difficult to rate a book written honestly, and on such a sensitive topic as Alzheimer's, poorly. At first, I was endeared to Hirsch's forgiveness toward her mother and embrace of the present over relentlessly clinging to the past. And yet, while this theme continues, the book develops none of these notions there is little exposition to explain to us what Hirsch's mother was like in her younger years, or even what the mother-daughter relationship had been like in contrast to the present day. Further, many chapters leave hanging developments in the "plot;" a chapter will end in concern on one issue, and then never return to that issue in a later chapter. Indeed, the entire book ends this way abruptly, without any hint to how this story ends.
  
  Many of the chapters return to the same themes over and over again how proud Hirsch is of her mother's memories, how hurt she is when those memories are gone, how much she wishes she could live closer to her mother, how much she attempts to appreciate the moments she has before her mother's disease progresses further. There is no self-development of the author or in her subject throughout the text, however; it becomes a repetitive nod of the same routine. Even the pictures - which come with each chapter - become recycled. (In fact, these photos are still recycled on the author's blog, which remains active at the time I write this review).
  
  Ultimately, this book feels little more than a cut-and-paste job from Hirsch's blog. Like the blog it comes from, My Mom My Hero lacks emotional depth or sincerity; it glosses over emotions in a way that leaves the reader unable to truly identify with the author's inner turmoils. With time and sincenrity, Hirsch could write a moving, emotional memoir of her mother and the shocking cruelty of Alzheimer's, but this book is a draft in comparison to what could be.

"I passed my PTCE on the first go studying with this AND Barron's PTCE book. This book has a ton of information. It over prepares you in my opinion, but it is good. It was recommended by a pharmacist that I get that book and study with it. It was hard to understand at times which is why I used it with the Barron's PTCE book which was much easier to read. The test is pretty easy you need to know laws, brand and generics and basic math mostly, not to much math though, so chill. Study early for it but don't stress out it's honestly okay."

  Aside from the mistakes, I really do think this is a great book and recommend it to anyone trying to take the Pharmacy Tech exam.
• This is the review from a 20 year old male with no medical experience whatsoever.

  1) Do not try to pass the exam with just this resource. The text that accompanies the practice tests is not enough knowledge to pass any of the tests at all. You cannot pass with just the knowledge in this book, and a lot of the material covered is not thoroughly explained. I recommend two other resources formal education (university, course, etc.), or the The Pharmacy Technician (4e).
  
  2) This book has so many practice questions for you to utilize. Do it. Use the questions on the disc, as it is less of a hassle.
  
  3) There are many typos and wrong answers in the practice questions. It's maybe one wrong answer for every two practice exams. Some of the errors are pretty major. But, if you are a responsible person and receive the formal training or read The Pharmacy Technician, then you will catch most of these errors and not study mistakes. I wouldn't worry so much about this, but it's something to be aware of. The first mistake I encountered, I trusted the book and therefore wasted a lot of time trying to understand my "mistake" only to find out that it was a typographical error.
  
  4) Even if you read The Pharmacy Technician, read the text that comes with this book too, as you'll find it gives you a different perspective and sometimes different approaches for solving problems which may make some light bulbs turn on.
  
  5) This book is worth every penny because of the software. Buy it, and I promise if you use it properly then you will pass.
  
  Questions about the exam
  
  1) What do I need to be scoring on the practice exams to pass the real exam?
  Well, I was scoring between 72-82 on the practice exams and scored a 745/900 on the real exam. The passing score for the real exam is 650. Calculating that (remember that the minimum score is 300, so you have to account for that [in case anyone is checking my math), you need to be scoring above a 60% on these practice tests to pass, roughly. If you are scoring 70%, you will most likely pass.
  
  2) Do I need to learn all of these billions of medicines for the test?!
  Yes and no. You will need to know which drugs fit into which schedules. That is very important. Learning medicines comes from repetition, and mainly repetition of the actual use and process of these drugs. So you will learn these medicines eventually as a technician and all about what they do and where they should be stored and everything. Don't worry so much about this. However, when a medicine is in the practice test, write it down and learn it. If you learn all of the medicines from the 10 practice tests on the disc, then you will be very fine. Note that all of the medicines in the practice tests amount to a very small amount when compared to the total of medicines that you could be tested over. But at least learning those few will help and get you familiar with some patterns that you'll start to recognize with medicines. Bottom line, don't stress to much about this.
  
  3) What about math?
  Know all of the math concepts, completely.
  
  4) What about the laws?
  Learn them, completely. This book spreads them out very nicely.
  
  5) Are these practice tests harder than the actual test?
  I think they are roughly the same, but if I had to pick one then I would say that the practice tests are a little harder. I think that the math in the real test is slightly easier but there are harder medicines (what is the generic name for ___, what can you not eat with this?, what does this react with? who cannot take this?, etc.) on the real test than the practice tests. There are a few more questions on just "concepts" than on the practice tests -- the practice tests don't waste space with that. These concept questions are basically freebie questions (ex. How many mL are in 1cc?). There are only like 2-3 of these, but there are virtually none in the practice tests.
  
  6) Will I need the entire time limit?
  I would hope not. They give you an unGodly amount of time for the test. I was completing the practice tests in 20-30 minutes and I took my time on the exam and had a little less than an hour left over.
  
  7) Does it take a long time for the results to come back?
  Yes. Just under 3 weeks. Don't expect it sooner.
  
  8) Do I have to enroll in a course to pass this?
  Not at all. I am very happy that I didn't, considering the time I saved.
  
  9) How many hours of study should it take for me to pass?
  Of course, everyone is different. I studied less than a total of 50 hours and confidently passed. It just depends on your knowledge before you start, how quickly you learn, how you study, etc. I'd say a perfectly average person with perfectly average prior knowledge would take about 3-5 months, studying at comfortable pace. I'd say a person with excellent math skills and is reasonably intelligent can do this in 2-3 months (again, with a comfortable studying speed). I completed my studying in less than 2 weeks, so it's possible to do it in under a month.
  
  10) Will I pass?
  Yes. If you did everything that you were expected to do, do not fear the test at all. If you halfway studied and cut corners, you have every right to be worried -- good luck. If you are looking to pass this without training or studying or work experience, you will not pass.

• This is probably one of the most influential books I have read in my life, and now, twenty years later, I am now buying a copy to give to my granddaughter. It provides very gentle and practical guidance for transitioning to a vegetarian lifestyle and also some useful recipes that I have been using for many, many years.
• This is an excellent book for those wishing to try the vegetarian life-style, but not all at once. I had this book previously (bought it over 10yrs ago) and lost my copy. I have been a vegetarian for several years, I keep this book mainly for the receipes, some are excellent and none are complicated or pricey, Also, when someone asks me about going vegetarian, I use the book as a reference. Very good book!
• This book was a great investment for me - my family has never made it to total vegetarianism, but we are eating less red meat and enjoying the options more.
  My biggest concern was that in going away from meat, my family would have no protein - what DO you need to look out for, where do you find enough protein for growing kids? Reading this book gave friendly, easy to understand information along with shopping help and recipes that can lead the reluctant a little closer to healthy eating.
  I keep this book in my cookbook library, and periodically pull it out and for awhile, cook meals that are tasteful and a little better for our bodies than the usual typical American meals.
  More than half of this book is filled with information on how to step towards vegetarianism in a non-judgmental way. She gives information, recipes and shopping hints for each stage without pushing the reader on to the next. She also realizes that there may be serveral stages all within the same family.
  1) Stage One is where many of us are - less red meat, coffee, refined sugar, more vegetables, fruits and cereals. Eating poultry and fish, milk products, egs, beans, and other grain products. She lists the pluses of this stage, and doesn't urge anyone to move on to the next stage unless they want to.
  2) Stage Two is the next step - still eating fish, but almost no poultry, more dairy, grains, legumes, nuts, seeds.
  3) Stage Three goes beyond the more traditional lacto-ovo-vegetarianism into macrobiotics, natural hygiene.
  She says here, "The Stage Three diets represent a much larger step away from what we grew up with, but...remember You don't have to do it all at once. Or forever. As the teacher said, every little bit helps."
  The last part of the book has recipes, divided by the stages, which makes it really helpful for people like me who are vegetarian wannabes, living with meat-lovers.
  Soups, Casseroles, Indian Side Dishes, Vegetable Side Dishes, Breads, and more - some have become staples, even in the months when we are eating less healthy foods. Her chicken recipes are fast, easy and absolutely delicious!
  A treasure of information AND recipes!
• Lisa Tracy provides a very non-threatening approach to becoming a vegetarian. Set up in stages ranging from "thinking about it" to "veganism", and how to eat out in not necessarily vegetarian friendly restaurants (an essential thing when I lived in Nebraska) to how, and where, to shop for groceries. An excellent book.
• I've had this for a long long time and enjoyed it thoroughly. In addition to feeling better, I lost weight as well. It's a wonderful guide if you follow it. Informative and educational. I recommend it!
  Does anyone know of other books she has written?
• Joseph Campbell realizes that one has to eat to stay alive this means something has to die. He says it is monstrous. However we need to get over it and realize that is the nature of things.
  
  For the rest of us there are other reasons for going vegetarian and cornering the poor carrot that can not run from us. This book is dedicated to the attitude that "you are what you eat."
  
  It is not easy or wise to go cold turkey per-say. And this book helps both physically and psychologically to become the svelte vegetarian that we all long to be.
  
  The process is divided into three stages including 15 steps. The book includes over 200 recipes.
  
  So you do become a social outcast there are strategies for feeding the archaic meat eaters at the same time.
  
  All in all it is a very useful book at treating vegetarian (much more just healthy eating) in a practical and less radical manner.
  
  There are no pictures to this 297 page book. However there is a list of recipes and organizations that can help beyond the book.

SOBRE EL AUTOR
El profesor CESAR DE LA CERDA (autor del Curso de ARMONIA TONAL MODERNA) se inició en el piano por medio de su abuelo Miguel Espinoza, notable pianista graduado en el Conservatorio de Paris. Obtuvo un doctorado en psicología en la universidad Autónoma de la ciudad de México y completó su entrenamiento como músico profesional en el Conservatorio Nacional de Música de la ciudad de México dando numerosos conciertos y dedicando su tiempo a la enseñanza del piano. Subsecuentemente se interesó en la expresión contemporánea de la música, particularmente el Jazz. Estudió armonía moderna, composición e improvisación bajo la guía de su mentor John Mehegan en el conservatorio de música Juilliard en la ciudad de Nueva York. Ha dedicado 40 años a la enseñanza de cursos de armonía moderna, composición e improvisación para piano con estudiantes, aficionados y profesionales en la ciudad de México y en San Diego, CA. • I got the book during the first quarter of this year and just finished it recently, due to school priorities. I'm just a High School senior.
  
  Anyways, I can honestly say that this book is worth every cent for those seeking to gain a good solid grip on the Objective-C programming language. The author does a great job explaining each concept covered in great detail. In addition, the example programs (code) provided throughout the chapters are well explained and well thought out.
  
  I do want to point out that this might not be the best book for absolute beginners. The book breezes through certain topics like variable declarations, which is essential to any programming language.
  
  For absolute beginners who have never written a single line of code, I recommend starting your quest into programming by learning the C programming language first. This book may leave you scratching your head if you do not have at least a basic understanding of general C concepts.
  
  I've been writing code ever since I was 13, and I can honestly say learning the C programming language is a definately must for those absolute beginners wanting to program in many advance languages like C++ and Objective-C. While it isn't required, it will make learning these languages easier because Many C concepts are adopted by these programming languages.
• The book spent 4 chapters on C programming. Experienced C/C++ programmers may skip it entirely. It goes by describing building simple illustration with fraction class. I wish it could highlight the points specific to Objective-C instead purely going through by describing how he implements a fraction class which isn't much interesting. Many parts of the content describe trivial step by step how to.
  
  The book does briefly explains important constructs such as Interface, Implementation, Property, Category, Protocol, Protected/Public/Private, nonatomic/atomic, copy, strong, weak, etc. For a book solely written for Objective-C, I would expect to see more discussions on when to and when not to use these constructs. Real samples taken from the Foundation classes would be great.
  
  The book only gets you started. You'll need other material to complement for effective Objective-C programming + a lot of practicing.
  
  I give it 4 stars because it does what is required for beginners. But experienced programmers especially C/C++ programmers should look more than this book alone. The step by step given simply made me dumb as a C/C++ programmer. These step by step should be better off provided in the user manual of Xcode.
• There are certain writing styles that really make it hard for me to get through a book. I am afraid this book is one of them. The best one word description I can think of is 'Wordy'.
  
  I have read C Programming Language (2nd Edition) and Objective-C Programming The Big Nerd Ranch Guide (Big Nerd Ranch Guides) and they just come off much cleaner and to the point for me. This may just be my personal taste in writing styles.
  
  The author covers a ton of topics and has a lot of other good reviews so I am thinking it is just me. Below are the chapters titles he includes which give a good idea of what is covered.

  The main thing I do not like about this book is that the code samples are only made partially available on a forum maintained by the author. The problem is the forum is a confusing mess and not worth the time to go through to try to find them. I can appreciate the authors philosophy that not providing code makes us type it, but I don't always have the time to type it. I usually like to have the code to play with and extend. Not having it was annoying.
  
  My recommendation is to take some time and read through the content here on . They provide quite a bit. If you like the author's writing style, then go for it.

To top things off, the sticker-price was a palpable $12 dollars and the cover art looked great (important when taking art direction).

Basically what the book amounts to is a series of chapters, each one describing a particular game art profession. Some of the jobs detailed include: concept, environment, character, ui, and marketing artists. Every chapter includes a job description, explanation of the process or workflow, example images, an artist profile, and finally a mock “help wanted” ad that could be for the position. The format is informative, and I think would be very helpful for a student looking to get into the industry as an artist. Certainly, you don’t have to be a student to find worth in this book and I personally feel it is a great choice if you are at all interested in video game art.

The author, Sam R. Kennedy, is a game artist himself and shares a some of his (quite impressive) work within these pages. Nicely, the photos on the Kindle e-book were in color. This is quite important, and in my research I did stumble upon some game art instruction books from people with questionable artistic ability. Of course, you don’t need to be da Vinci to make a 3d model (especially not when working from good photos or concept art) but I can’t help but wonder what I’m doing taking advice from an amateur. That was not the case with this text. Kennedy is a veteran and has worked at Ubisoft on Tom Clancy games and the like. I felt pretty comfortable accepting his opinions.

All in all, I was happy with the purchase and I’m glad to have the book in my collection. If it helps me (even a little bit) in improving my art that’s a net positive. In any case, it was inspiring and that’s enough for me."

• This book might sound like many other books that promise too much. I'll admit I was skeptical and didn’t have high hopes going in. not it was surprisingly refreshing.
  
  Theres was a lot of info in this book. and it really sheds light into the gaming industry and how to break in. easy to follow to. this book really does a good job of breaking things down. the way it breaks down each job describing what it is how its down. and what kind of training is needed. ending each chapter with the background of working professional and then what a want ad for this job would look like.
  
  Even if you just know what one job you want to get into it pays to know the other jobs and how they all work together. So it’s not like you’ll read the one chapter that pertains to whatever job your interested in and throw the book away.
  
  Really if you have questions or thinking about going to school. I suggest reading this book. You'll save your self a lot of time.
• Definitely a good starting point for anyone interested in the Video Game industry. He outlines each career with an idea of the requirements necessary to obtain the position.
  
  It is definitely a grueling process, and I have more respect for video game artists after reading this!
• A good eye opener and planning book. Best advice is to never ever give up. That's not in the book but something you must have in your heart. This book is only good to enlighten and show road map but the spirit and guts must come from you.
• I only have recently become interested in Video Games. I'm truly enjoying this read which is taking me behind the scenes of a totally new world. The book's format is excellent. Each chapter covers a particular expertise needed to build a video game starting with a job description, showing what sort of work is done at each stage of development, explaining the tools used, explaining jargon, all this with lots of excellent illustrations. Then the chapter closes with a wanted ad that gives you an idea of education and skills you will have to bring to the job.
  Through this book I have acquired a new respect for the people in this industry and I promise I will never again think of them as "dudes wasting their talent and time drawing gore for a living". Although....
• Useful tips, more useful if you want modern war game type of work but Im more geared towards fantasy. Still helpful and easy to understand
• Great!
• Important book for any future computer animator!!!

• I always take it with me when going to Borrego. The map alone is worth the price. The book has so much information, it's really great. The formating is not entirely to my liking, but I don't leave home without this book. There is information in here you won't find anywhere else-history of the region, geological info, etc. This and Afoot and Afield and you don't need any other books!
• this book would be quite useful for someone who plans to spend a week or more in Anza-Borrego or make repeated visits into the backcountry. For someone visiting the park for a day or two, there is too much information and it is not organized in such a way as to make it easy to identify what you're looking for.

• This is a great book. I carried it along with me in the car every day I was there (earlier this spring 2018). The map was easy to read, and the driving tours in the chapters were really helpful. We took several of the hikes and were glad to have the extra information beforehand. This book became an absolute must have before any serious trip to the Anza Borrego Desert.
• This is THE book to go for if one wants an intimate knowledge of the Anza Borrego Desert. Well laid out, the specific area guides are easy to find, plus a wonderful color map is included with purchase. Speaking of color, I would think it about time now to update and upgrade to photos within the book to color. I realize that printing costs would rise, but the extra cost would be well worth it as someone travels through the book on "previsualized" journeys. I would have given it five stars except for its lack of color photos.
• A useful guide to the treasurers found in Anza-Borrego. The booklet is a perfect size to fit in a glove box and is well written and easy to understand.
• This is the latest edition of an amazingly complete and detailed guidebook to one of the best of California's natural areas. Lowell and Dianna Lindsay do a wonderful job of chronicling the changes that have taken place over the years. In an area as vast as the Anza-Borrego, new roads and trails open up while others fade away - and they seem to be able to keep up with ALL of them!
• Awesome guide, in the map is a great backup for GPS and functions well to get some big picture when spread out on the dinner table.
